Berlin Festival Weeks 2003 with its special focus on Russia

The Berlin Festival Weeks, beginning officially on September 18, provides again this year a wide array of events spanning music, literature, film and contemporary art.

Fittingly for the German-Russian year predominantly Russian artists are invited to present their works and, in addition to the large exhibition Berlin-Moscow/Moscow-Berlin 1950-2000, to demonstrate the modern tendencies in their homeland.

Among other anticipated guests are the performance artist Elena Kovylina, director Cirill Serebrennikov, the Moscow Theater Tenj; from the field of literature Vicot Yerofeyev and Vladimir Sorokin and in that of music the Pokrovski Ensemble from Moscow.

As the climax and finale of the Festival Weeks the famous opera ensemble of the Mariinskij Theatre of St. Petersburg under the direction of Valeriy Georgiev will give performances on four days in the Deutsche Oper, Berlin.
